Learn Flashpage

Everything you need to get productive — from your first note to the complete keyboard shortcut reference. Warm, clear, no jargon.

Getting started

Flashpage is a notes app for your Windows PC that keeps everything on your own computer — no accounts, no cloud, no internet required. You write “pages” (notes), and they live as ordinary files in a folder you fully own.

After installing, you land on Home — the list of all your pages, with search and browsing. Create your first note with the New note button or Ctrl + N, give it a title, and start writing.

The big idea: your notes are just files

Every page is saved as a plain Markdown (.md) file with a small header. Your notes are never trapped — open, back up, or move them with any app, even Notepad.

Subjects & tags

To keep things tidy, each page has one Subject (its main topic or “folder”) and any number of Tags (extra cross-cutting labels). This lets you browse the same notes two ways — by subject or by tag — without filing a note in just one place.

A button next to the logo cycles three views: All pagesBy subject By tag. Inside a folder, press Esc to go back. Star a page to favorite it and it floats to the top.

The editor

The editor is WYSIWYG— you format visually, and it's quietly saved as clean Markdown. Fill in the title, subject, and tags at the top; press Enter to advance between them and into the body.

A hideable toolbar gives one-click formatting, and typing / at the start of an empty line opens a quick insert menu for headings, lists, tables, images, and more. See the shortcut reference for the full list.

Elements & design

A slim icon rail (toggle with Ctrl + \) works like a design app such as Canva:

  • Elements — tables, dividers, code blocks, quotes, and typeable shapes.
  • Images — a gallery of every image you've added; drag files to add more.
  • Tools — signature pad, redaction, and reusable [variable] tokens.
  • Media — gifs, video, and audio that play right inside a page.

Export & import

Export any page as PDF (polished and print-ready), editable Word, or plain Markdown. All exports run in the background and land in your Downloads folder. Press Ctrl + Shift + P for a silent, instant PDF.

Bring PDFs in from Home (as a new page) or inside a page — choose Extract text (editable & searchable) or Pages as images (pixel-identical, great for scans).

Settings

Open Settings from the gear icon on Home or press Ctrl + ,. Choose a Light / Dark / System theme and an accent tone, set background images and opacity, pick from ~40 built-in fonts and 60+ spellcheck languages, and toggle auto-save, launch-at-login, the slash menu, and default word wrap.

Some choices belong to a single page — its font, language, favorite status, word wrap, and Preview — and are remembered per page.

Where notes live

Flashpage stores everything in your Windows app-data folder:

  • notes/ — one .md file per page.
  • notes/assets/ — images, media, and signatures.
  • backgrounds/ — background images (kept separate).
  • index.sqlite — search index; rebuilt automatically, safe to delete.

Because your pages are ordinary Markdown files, backing up Flashpage is as simple as copying that folder.

Tables & charts

🚧 In active development
This is our newest area and it's still evolving quickly — behavior and shortcuts may change between releases.

The Data & Analytics tab turns a page into a lightweight spreadsheet. Type = in any cell for a live, Excel-style formula:

=SUM(B2:B9)

Sort by real value (numbers, %, currency, dates), add total and average rows, import a CSV, and copy a table as CSV. Then insert one of eight chart types — line, bar, horizontal bar, area, scatter, pie, donut, radar — or generate one straight from a table.
